If you are wondering how to help a loved one with addiction, Veritas Detox is here to help. Addiction can affect anyone who is around the person experiencing it, and Veritas Detox strives to include family members and other loved ones in the treatment process when possible.

First, let’s talk about how to help a loved one with addiction. Then, we’ll discuss what to expect when your loved one is in treatment with us and some support groups that may help you as someone with a loved one facing addiction.

Helping a Loved One With Addiction

Having a support system is critical in addiction recovery for a variety of different reasons. For example, a strong support system can prevent isolation and may increase motivation or accountability for the individual in recovery. Helping a loved one with addiction often means that individuals must learn to balance self-care with supporting the person in their life who has a problem with alcohol or drugs. Here are some things you can do.

There are many myths about substance use disorders. As a result, many family members, friends, and romantic partners supporting a loved one with addiction benefit from education concerning the nature of addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and harm reduction. This can be equally as crucial for the person facing substance abuse themselves. Veritas Detox provides psychoeducation for people with addiction and their loved ones.

What if you want to help a loved one get treatment for addiction? Veritas Detox works with professional drug interventionists who guide people like you through the process of planning and staging effective drug interventions. Veritas Detox will also help you secure a treatment placement for your loved one if they agree to treatment.

Often, people helping loved ones with addiction will need to learn to set boundaries and enforce them. While this can be difficult, setting boundaries lets you care for yourself and, in some cases, avoid enabling your loved one. There are different types of boundaries. For example, physical, time, emotional, and financial boundaries. If you have trouble setting boundaries with a person in your life who is facing addiction, a therapist or counselor can help.

Veritas Detox offers family therapy for addiction as a part of our residential inpatient treatment program. In family therapy, your loved one and chosen members of their family unit can come together to work on various goals. For example, healthy communication, understanding each other better, and how to help a loved one with addiction in ways specific to your relationship (e.g., parent-child relationships, living together, couple relationships).

Using self-care matters when you have a loved one with a substance use disorder. Whether your loved one is in treatment, has not yet agreed to treatment, refuses treatment, or has been through treatment, having emotional support of your own is integral. It is normal to feel a toll on your own mental health when a loved one goes through an illness of any kind, including substance use disorders. Working with a therapist, attending a support group for loved ones of those facing addiction, or both, can help.

What to Expect When a Loved One Gets Treatment at Veritas Detox

Those who want to help a loved one with addiction will want to ensure that their loved one is in good hands at the treatment center they attend. Veritas Detox is more than a luxury rehab center – we’re a 5-star facility with effective programs and highly skilled, compassionate staff members here to give your loved one a positive experience with treatment and sobriety.

Drug and Alcohol Detox

When your loved one first stops using substances, they may experience withdrawal symptoms. In some cases (such as those where a person experiences delirium tremens), withdrawal symptoms can be dangerous without proper attention from medical providers. Our drug and alcohol detox program in California helps clients get off of substances safely with the support of a qualified medical team. We will monitor your loved one’s vital signs and provide treatment for withdrawal symptoms as needed. Usually, detox lasts for about 1-2 weeks until the client reaches a place of physical stability.

Luxury Residential Inpatient Rehab

Our luxury residential inpatient rehab program provides intensive therapy in a high-end environment. During the day, clients in residential treatment at Veritas Detox participate in a rich combination of groups, individual therapy sessions, exercise, family therapy, holistic treatments, and other activities that promote recovery and whole-person well-being. All clients get custom treatment plans that support their unique needs. Veritas Detox offers private and shared living options with en-suite bathrooms and world-class amenities, including a gym, rec room, a saltwater pool, a hot tub, a fire pit, and a patio, which are just some of the features that set our rehab center apart. Most people attend residential inpatient treatment for about 1-3 months.

Aftercare Planning

Aftercare planning at Veritas Detox will help set your loved one up for success as their time in treatment comes to an end and they prepare to re-enter everyday life. As part of the aftercare planning process, we can refer your loved one to outpatient programs, sober living, or other resources in their area. We also offer extensive alumni support opportunities for former clients so that they will always have a strong and supportive sober community to turn to.

Veritas has been life saving and life changing for my son, which has made a profound impact on our family, as a whole. My son has struggled with drug addiction since his late teens. I'm not typically one for writing reviews but I truly believe this place saved my son's life. After numerous attempts to get clean in our area, we thought it was best to get away from the people and places that brought him to this point. His therapist was amazing and I feel that he finally got the one-on-one help that he actually needed!
